FUNDAMENTALS OF MAKING A LASTED SHOE
(5 day intensive class)
COURSE LEVEL: ADVANCED BEGINNER, INTERMEDIATE, ADVANCED
TUITION: $1875 (U.S. funds) ALL MATERIALS INCLUDED.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This is a fast moving advanced introductory/intermediate class which covers many of the essentials which can later be applied to many other types of footwear the student will want to experiment with on his own.
Students are guided through the various processes from creating patterns to installing the shanks and lasting the shoes using quality materials like leather insoles and full leather linings and hand formed toe boxes. Emphasis is fabrication, not simply gluing together prefabricated, pre-shaped and sized components.
Because this is an introduction to making a fully lasted shoe, students do not create their own design but make a unisex fully adjustable lasted shoe which incorporates all the skills required to make many other type of shoes similar to the shoe pictured. Students can choose from a variety of leather colors and sole/heel options available.
Includes all supplies and use of tools, shoe lab and equipment and personal instruction.
Literally "get down to brass tacks" and learn everything from how to measure a foot, to cutting/assembly of the uppers and lasting the shoes.
Students will learn to use all basic tools and materials and will have time to experience the use of the tools and equipment needed. They will be provided lists of contacts and suppliers to help get them started after their experience at The Shoe College.
This is a practical "hands on" experience for those obsessed with shoes and gifted with a bit of the crafter or handyman in them.

* Tools, materials and suppliers
* Parts of a shoe
* Basic foot anatomy
* Foot measuring techniques
* Patterns and pattern making
* Lasts: types and measurements (adapting lasts to accommodate foot issues or change toe shape is not covered in this class (pls inquire if this is a skill you are interested in acquiring)
